According to Mosseri, this button is still under evaluation and intends to foster more positive interactions within comments. Should the test yield favorable results, disliked comments might receive lower visibility in the rankings of a post or reel’s comment section.

This dislike feature will not display any count associated with post dislikes; neither can those who created posts or other users see who has expressed distaste toward any comment. Disliking serves as an internal metric unknown to the public. An Instagram representative shared with TechCrunch that initially only a limited group of users would have access to this testing phase.
“We are exploring methods for enhancing user control over their Instagram experience,” explained the spokesperson. ”Currently in trial stages is an option next to each comment on Reels or Feed posts allowing users to privately indicate their dissatisfaction with particular remarks.” This feature may later include adjustments like repositioning negative feedback lower down within discussions for improved overall usability.

For those selected individuals permitted early access to this functionality, an arrow pointing downwards will be present beside each comment—a design reminiscent of Reddit’s downvote system.
