FuboTV Adjusts Pricing for Its Streaming Plans
In the most recent episode of “Everything Costs More,” streaming service Fubo has announced a $5 increase in the prices of its English-language plans for new subscribers. This price adjustment affects the Essential plan, which was introduced just last December.
The revised pricing places Fubo’s lowest offering, the Essential bundle, at $85 per month—slightly exceeding YouTube TV’s current rate of $83. YouTube TV also underwent a price hike earlier this month, raising its fees by $10 from its original launch price of $35 back in 2017.
A Closer Look at Fubo’s Plans
Fubo presents a Pro plan with the same monthly fee as the Essential option but distinguishes itself by including regional sports networks (RSNs) that can add an additional charge of up to $16 monthly. The Essentials package allows customers to avoid RSN fees if they’re not concerned about access to many local sports broadcasts—a nod to how complex live-streaming services have become in comparison with traditional cable TV.
The newly adjusted price for Fubo Elite stands at $95 monthly plus any pertinent RSN charges and offers an impressive selection of 78 extra channels including staples like NBA TV and MLB Network along with more niche offerings such as The Cooking Channel. Additionally, there is a budget-friendly Latino package available for just $33 which includes channels like ESPN Deportes and Cine Latino; interestingly, this subscription level remains untouched by recent price increases.
Comparative Offerings and Market Position
While Fubo is often hailed as one of the top platforms for live sports viewing, it notably lacks several key channels found on competing services like YouTube TV. Missing channels include popular networks from Warner Bros. Discovery such as CNN and TBS—as well as A&E and AMC—leaving potential gaps in content availability.
Savings Opportunities Amid Price Hikes
To cushion the financial impact on new customers during this period of increased pricing, Fubo is providing promotional discounts: newcomers can benefit from a reduction of $25 off their first month’s subscription to the Essential plan or enjoy savings of $20 on either Elite or Pro plans. For those interested in Spanish-language options via their Latino plan, an introductory discount totaling $8 is available—but be advised that standard rates will apply following this initial discount period.
The Future Outlook: Potential Merger Ahead
This month witnessed exciting developments between Fubo and Disney involving discussions centered around merging with Hulu + Live TV. If finalized through necessary regulatory approvals and shareholder consent, this collaboration could give birth to a new entity under the Fubo brand overseeing both platforms while maintaining separate operational structures. Disney would hold 70% ownership while Fubo retains 30%. Collectively combining their reach would create a significant subscriber base estimated around six million individuals across both services.
