Immediate Shutdown of Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles on iOS
Square Enix has announced the abrupt discontinuation of its iOS title, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles, due to a bug related to in–app purchases.
Users have reported difficulties accessing content they purchased within the app over the past few weeks. Square Enix attributes this issue to ”adjustments made to the in-app purchase system.” However, it’s worth noting that Apple had not implemented any significant changes regarding in-app purchases recently. This discrepancy raises questions about what specific alterations Square Enix is referencing.
The company further communicated that fixing this issue and adapting to new requirements is beyond their capabilities at this time. Unfortunately for players on iPhone and iPad, this means an end to support for Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles.
The game has been taken off the App Store entirely. Users who purchased any content from January 2024 onward are encouraged to seek refunds through Square Enix’s customer support channels.
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles was known for its online multiplayer feature and cross-platform gameplay options that allowed players collaboratively navigate dungeons for rewards. Meanwhile, a remastered edition is still accessible on consoles such as Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 as well as Android devices.
Status Update
A recent comment from forum member An_mo_ indicated that Apple instituted changes regarding security standards for App Store receipts just one day prior to when issues began surfacing. This timing suggests a possible correlation between these modifications and users’ troubles; however, it remains ambiguous why Square Enix could not adapt their application accordingly.
