WhatsApp Enhances Communication with New Translation Feature
Since July, WhatsApp has been developing a novel feature aimed at translating chat messages, and recent reports indicate that the platform is expanding this capability to include translations for channel updates as well.
This insight stems from WABetaInfo, which uncovered details about this new function in the beta version 2.24.26.9 of WhatsApp for Android. Although it’s still undergoing development and not yet accessible to beta testers, shared screenshots suggest users will have a toggle option to enable translation for incoming channel updates and chat messages.
On-Device Translation Prioritizing Privacy
In an effort to safeguard user privacy and security, translations will be processed on the device itself without needing an internet connection. However, users must download specific language packs to fully utilize this feature—this may result in some limitations regarding translation accuracy as a compromise for enhanced privacy measures.
Supported Languages and Future Expansion
The initial range of supported languages includes English, Hindi, Russian, Arabic, Spanish, and Portuguese; additional languages may be included in future updates.
Innovative Calling Features Launching This Holiday Season
While the timeline for deploying this translation functionality remains unclear from WhatsApp’s end, the company has recently announced several engaging calling features suitable for both mobile and desktop users just in time for the holiday season.
A notable enhancement allows users to initiate calls with selected participants within group chats without disrupting others who are not involved in that conversation. Furthermore, video call participants can enjoy ten different effects during their sessions.
For desktop users of WhatsApp, starting calls or generating call links has become more straightforward; just click on the calls tab to dial directly or create a link effortlessly. Additionally, higher resolution video quality is now available during both one-on-one and group calls.
