Anticipated Features for the Upcoming iPhone 18 Pro Models
The launch of the iPhone 18 Pro models is still approximately a year and a half away, yet early speculation about these devices is already emerging.
Here we summarize notable rumors regarding the iPhone 18 Pro thus far.
Integration of Under-Screen Face ID
The display specialist Ross Young indicated in April 2023 that the upcoming iPhone 17 Pro models would feature an under-display Face ID system. However, by May 2024, he suggested that this enhancement might be delayed to as late as 2026, possibly pushing its debut to coincide with the release of the iPhone 18 Pro and its Max counterpart.
If implemented, it appears that while under-screen Face ID may become standard, Apple’s Dynamic Island feature will persist—though potentially in a smaller form. Alternatively, new designs might see only a minor pinhole for the front-facing camera at the top of the display, mimicking existing Android models like Google’s Pixel series or Samsung’s Galaxy offerings.
Adjustable Aperture Options
Ming-Chi Kuo has reported that both versions of this forthcoming model will incorporate variable aperture technology within their primary suite of cameras. This feature would empower users to adjust light intake via the camera lens better than previously possible with fixed apertures found on earlier models like those from series iPhone 14 through iPhone 16.
This flexibility would enable enhanced control over depth perception in photos—altering how subjects stand out from their backgrounds—but it’s uncertain how impactful this adjustment may be given physical sensor limitations present in smartphones.
