Lyft has announced an innovative collaboration with Mobileye, a pioneering entity in self-driving technology previously associated with Tesla’s Autopilot initiative. This partnership is set to potentially launch a fleet of robotaxis as early as 2026.
This significant alliance was established in November 2024, where both companies expressed their commitment to accelerating the commercialization of autonomous vehicle services through leading fleet operators. Lyft (Nasdaq: LYFT), recognized as one of North America’s premier transportation networks, aims to utilize its impressive reach—serving around 40 million riders annually—to create an efficient platform that caters to Mobileye Drive™ equipped fleets.
Objectives of the Collaboration
The primary goal is to enable future autonomous vehicles operators interested in deploying extensive fleets across various urban areas in North America. These operators will have access to ‘Lyft-ready’ vehicles embedded with Mobileye’s advanced systems from manufacturers tailored for such integration.
“Future AV fleet owners can optimize usage and profitability while leveraging Lyft’s existing rider base,” noted representatives from both companies during the announcement.
Additionally, they intend to implement Mobileye’s state-of-the-art cloud-based demand framework that connects the autonomous vehicles operated by multiple fleet providers. By utilizing this seamless system alongside Lyft’s series of AV Partner APIs, it is anticipated that vehicle availability will increase significantly for users.
The Competitive Landscape
Meanwhile, Uber has entered into a partnership with Waymo aiming to introduce robotaxi services across cities like Austin and Atlanta, signifying growing competition within this emerging sector.
The race towards establishing a robust robotaxi service network indicates no single entity will dominate the market for long; competition is keen among firms striving toward similar technological milestones. Currently, Waymo leads this race; however, others such as Mobileye and Tesla are making notable advancements that could soon position them closely behind.

“Mobileye’s comprehensive technology stack plays a crucial role in preparing autonomous fleets under Lyft’s branding,” expressed David Risher, CEO of Lyft last November. “As we expand our offerings of AVs for our extensive customer base each year, our objective remains focused on developing a platform appealing enough for fleet owners.” The importance placed on collaboration is echoed by Prof. Amnon Shashua from Mobileye who stated:
