Potential Integration of WhatsApp ⁤Calls

According to findings from an APK teardown by Android Authority, version v20250131 of Google Messages ‌has revealed a feature that‍ allows‍ users to start a WhatsApp call.⁣ Currently, when users select the video call option within a chat thread, it redirects them to a setup⁢ page for‌ Google Meet. However, ⁤at this⁣ stage, this function is applicable only for one-on-one calls; group discussions⁢ still default to offering the Google‍ Meet‌ option.

The Future Uncertain Yet Promising

No formal announcement has been ‍made by either Google or WhatsApp regarding this new integration feature as of now. The‍ timeline and feasibility for its ⁣official implementation in the Messages app remain⁣ unclear. If launched⁣ successfully, however, it could provide users with an enhanced alternative since many⁤ rely on ⁢WhatsApp for casual video communications rather than utilizing Google Meet.
