Google Messages Finally Gets the Attention It Deserves
It’s encouraging to witness Google taking significant steps to enhance its official Messages application after years of transitioning between a multitude of messaging platforms. Alongside recent improvements in Rich Communication Services (RCS), there are indications that Google is exploring the possibility of integrating WhatsApp calling capabilities within its Messages app.

Potential Integration of WhatsApp Calls
According to findings from an APK teardown by Android Authority, version v20250131 of Google Messages has revealed a feature that allows users to start a WhatsApp call. Currently, when users select the video call option within a chat thread, it redirects them to a setup page for Google Meet. However, at this stage, this function is applicable only for one-on-one calls; group discussions still default to offering the Google Meet option.
The Future Uncertain Yet Promising
No formal announcement has been made by either Google or WhatsApp regarding this new integration feature as of now. The timeline and feasibility for its official implementation in the Messages app remain unclear. If launched successfully, however, it could provide users with an enhanced alternative since many rely on WhatsApp for casual video communications rather than utilizing Google Meet.
