Transformations in Notification Summaries
The current beta disables the summarization feature for notifications from apps categorized under News and Entertainment temporarily; Apple plans to restore these capabilities with further updates. In a bid for greater clarity regarding potential errors inherent to this beta function, users will see notes stating that summaries might alter original headlines’ meanings, thus encouraging them to verify crucial details before acting on summarized notifications.
To enhance visual differentiation, summarized notifications now appear italicized, setting them apart from standard alerts. Users can manage their notification preferences directly from the Lock Screen by swiping on specific alerts and tapping “Options,” allowing for personalized summary settings on a per-app basis.
This adjustment applies across iOS 18.3, alongside similar enhancements in iPadOS 18.3 and macOS Sequoia 15.3.
Camera Control Improvements
The Settings app now features an updated option within Camera Control settings specifically for the latest iPhone models (iPhone 16). The toggle previously labeled AE/AF lock has been rebranded as “Lock Focus and Exposure.” This change aims at providing clearer guidance for users less familiar with photography jargon.
This optional feature allows users to secure their focus settings with a gentle press-and-hold action on the Camera Control button—mirroring techniques used by DSLR enthusiasts.
Updates to Messages App
A new addition titled Genmoji has been integrated into the Messages sidebar accessible via tapping the “+” icon during conversations; selecting it directs users toward creating custom emojis through Genmoji tools that were already available through an emoji keyboard shortcut.
PDF Editing Notifications
While editing PDFs via screenshots, users are now alerted when content is cropped out—that removed material will still exist within the PDF file itself despite not being displayed in most viewers but may become retrievable using certain applications while viewed elsewhere.”
