Colorado education department discloses data breach spanning 16 years

After a ransomware assault in June, the Colorado Department of Higher (*16*) (CDHE) notified college students on Friday of a possible data leak. In June, “unauthorized actor(s)” not but publicly recognized accessed CDHE methods in a ransomware assault. While authorities proceed to research the complete extent of the harm, the department has disclosed that the assault breached personally identifiable info like names and social safety numbers.

“The review of the impacted records is ongoing and once complete, CDHE will be notifying individuals who are potentially impacted by mail or email to the extent we have contact information,” CDHE wrote in a Notice of Data Incident. In response, CDHE is providing free entry to Experian credit score monitoring and id theft safety to guard their data. The department recommends impacted teams keep watch over their account statements and credit score experiences for suspicious exercise.
