Apple introduces an update for its renowned MagSafe charger.
A new firmware upgrade has been rolled out by Apple for its well-known MagSafe charger, though specifics about the changes remain undisclosed.
Firmware updates are a common feature of virtually all tech gadgets, including the MagSafe Charging puck. Typically, Apple executes these updates quietly in the background without any accompanying release notes or manual installation options.
The latest update advances the firmware to version 2A146 from the previous iteration of 2A143. This new version installs automatically when the device is in use and connected to a power source; users will not receive any notifications upon installation.
While details regarding this specific update are scarce, it is reasonable to assume that it includes enhancements that address bugs or improve user experience. The firmware plays a crucial role in identifying connected devices and managing charging speeds; therefore, sporadic updates are quite logical.
Since their introduction with MacBook Pro and MacBook Air models, MagSafe chargers have been integral to Apple’s ecosystem. In 2020, Apple brought this innovative technology to iPhones as well.
In 2024, an upgraded version of the MagSafe charger was introduced, allowing for wireless fast charging at speeds up to 25W specifically for iPhone 16 models. It is compatible with iPhones starting from model 12 onwards except for the more budget-friendly iPhone 16e which does not support this feature by default.
