Apple’s Retail Expansion in Saudi Arabia: A New Chapter
In 2025, Apple will begin its retail journey in Saudi Arabia with the launch of an online store, followed by the introduction of physical locations in 2026.
A Strategic Move into the Middle East
In the United States, Apple’s retail footprint is substantial, with numerous direct Apple Stores complemented by partnerships with authorized retailers like Best Buy and Walmart. In contrast, Apple’s international retail presence is primarily concentrated in significant markets such as China and Europe. In other regions, products are typically sold through approved resellers. Nonetheless, when Apple identifies a market as integral to its long-term success, it tends to enhance its direct retail operations to boost sales dramatically.
An illustrative case is India; after launching its online platform there in September 2020—a move that significantly increased sales—Apple subsequently opened two physical stores three years later to strengthen its brand visibility further.
Planned Developments for Saudi Arabian Market
This strategic approach will be mirrored in Saudi Arabia. The upcoming online store is set for launch during summer 2025, followed by “the first of multiple flagship stores” opening their doors in 2026. Notably, one of these groundbreaking outlets will be established at Diriyah—a site recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage location.
Tim Cook, CEO of Apple Inc., expressed enthusiasm about this expansion: “We’re thrilled to announce our plans for Saudi Arabia with an online store set for next year and several flagship locations beginning in 2026.” He emphasized that these efforts will allow them to engage more deeply with local customers while offering the best Apple has to offer—helping individuals explore their interests and innovate within their businesses.
The Growth Surge Among Developers
Further demonstrating growth potential within the region’s technology sector, Apple revealed that since 2019 developers based in Saudi Arabia have witnessed a remarkable increase of over 1,750% in earnings from app development and sales.
