Apple could be working on an iPad-like smart home control display

Apple may be growing an iPad-like display designed almost solely for managing smart home units.

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the gadget will function like a low-end iPad with just a few key functions — controlling HomeKit-enabled units, making FaceTime calls, streaming video and extra.

Like Amazon’s Echo Show 15, the smart home display is reportedly designed to be mounted to a wall or magnetically to an equipment like a fridge. In the previous, this smart home gadget has been rumoured to be extra of a HomePod/Apple TV hybrid, but when these rumours are correct, that design route appears to have shifted drastically.

What’s unusual about this hearsay is that at one level, you could really use Apple’s iPad line as a home hub, although the corporate eliminated the performance following the discharge of iPadOS 16 (presumably as a result of it’s working on this devoted hub gadget).

According to Gurman, Apple is aiming for a 2024 launch for its smart home display. Earlier this week, the tech big revealed its new 14-inch and 16-inch M2 Pro/Max-powered MacBook Pro (2022) and refreshed 2nd-Gen HomePod.
